Our Current Projects

Elroy Literacy Center develops and supports literacy initiatives that connect learners, families, educators, tutors, and communities with evidence-based opportunities to grow.

  • One-on-One Literacy Support — Trained tutors provide individualized reading instruction to young students who need additional support.

  • Preparing Future Educators — Aspiring educators and other community members will receive training in reading science and evidence-based literacy instruction.

  • Building Foundational Skills — Tutoring focuses on foundational reading skills, oral language, and vocabulary development

    A local Southeast Idaho school with 20 first-grade students who would benefit from additional reading support.

  • Tutor Partners
    Twenty high school seniors, college-age students, or other aspiring educators interested in becoming trained literacy tutors.

    Support for tutor wages, site leadership, training, and other program costs.

  • Community Support
    Assistance with snacks and other program needs.

  • Lending Library — A collection of evidence-aligned books, materials, and literacy resources families can borrow and explore before purchasing their own.

    An accessible community space where families can explore and borrow materials that support reading instruction.

    Funding to provide workshops and learning opportunities for parents and caregivers.

  • Tutoring, Small Group Instruction, and Progress Monitoring Support for Families

    Funding to offset tutoring and educational support costs for families.

Pilot for School Board Literacy Training

A two-year pilot providing two 45-minute literacy training sessions each year for school board members. The sessions will strengthen participants' understanding of evidence-based literacy practices and support informed educational leadership.

The long-term goal is to develop the training into a written, openly available set of materials that school boards and communities can use across the country.
